In the latest literary guide from Herb Lester Associates, we chart 42 locations from the life and work of Douglas Adams.

Although best known as author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy “trilogy” of five books, in which much of the action happens several hyperspace jumps from the debris of the earth, his work is peppered with London locations, and the city was his home for decades.

From Shepherds Bush to Highgate, we tour streets that Adams knew and cared about, unhappily noting the rampant development of Islington – “Grim concrete monoliths, eyeing the new spaces in Upper Street where they hoped to spawn their horrid progeny” – and the timeless joy of Hyde Park – “Hyde Park is stunning. Everything about it is stunning except for the rubbish on Monday mornings.”

Using all of his books, biographies and fresh research, this guide offers a glimpse of the city through the eyes of a much-missed author.

Praise for Douglas Adams’ London

I was so happy to receive my Map in the mail this week! I’m determined to annoy my family with a small literary tour of London featuring several spots on this map someday very soon. Planning on mounting and framing the fun coasters to go above our home bar area, too.

This is just a fantastic thing. It’s beautiful, informative, and oh so very nerdy and whimsical. If you like Douglas Adams’ books, and your travel plans take you to London, you should definitely bring this along.

Mark

I was thrilled to receive this map in the mail from Herb Lester! The packaging is beautiful. The illustrations are adorable, and the winged dog is my favorite. The 42 places are described with details, trivia, and interesting facts that make me want to buy a ticket and go to London to experience it all myself. This map belongs in any Douglas Adams fan’s library. I may have to buy another one, so I can frame both sides to hang next to my towel!

Her short fiction leans toward SF/Fantasy at an extravagantly relaxed angle. You can find her work in literary magazines such as Enheduanna, Imitation Fruit Literary Magazine, and The Santa Barbara Literary Journal.

For fun, Yvette time travels in self-made historical costumes, reads constantly, and performs in short-form improv and live storytelling shows. She lives in the world of the television phenomenon, Psych, finding contract work as a business consultant, an industrial voiceover professional, and a holistic detective.

Her ultimate writing fantasy would be winning a prestigious literary award as an excuse to celebrate with a fancy costume dinner. Her chosen guests of honor would be John Finnemore, Guy Gavriel Kay, Patricia A. McKillip, Mercedes Lackey, Neil Gaiman, and a cardboard cutout of Douglas Adams.
