Douglas Adams on 2020

Here it is, the final month of 2020!

For kicks, as we kick this year into the garbage can, enjoy this 1999 Douglas Adams interview where, at the 3:26 mark, he answers a question specifically about 2020:

“Imagine that the technology has ceased to be stupid and has become really effective, and you’re still writing…in about 2020. What might this new medium be like?”

Robyn Williams, Presenter for ABC Science

  1. Huh. I don’t feel like machines are gone, but the degree to which computing power is utilized in ways that people don’t fully think about is certainly a thing. That’s how we can all be referring to our pocket computers simply as phones.

    1. Yes, I agree. Having a little exposure to the immersive gaming systems like OculusRift, and the ways in which it “disappears” (even when wearing a giant helmet and gloves) is absolutely what I think Douglas was talking about here. It is SUPER fun…and deeply scary.
