Stay Astonished

It’s good to stay astonished by things. Curious. Aware.

Here’s a list of the things which astonished me today and especially on my “commute” to class in San Francisco tonight:

  • There’s a Redwood Park next to the Transamerica building
  • 81 degrees in SF at 5PM
  • Despite my runaway worrying, Asphalta provided a parking spot directly in front of the place I’m staying in Bernal Heights
  • The missing shoes I thought I’d mis-packed, turned up where and when I needed them
  • The cat I’m caring for didn’t try to remove my hand at the wrist when I put food down for her (this time)
  • Harley chick riding through the financial district in ankle boots and black skinny jeans, with a bandit-style skeleton kerchief over nose and mouth, blasting Welcome to The Jungle loud enough to host a block party jerked her chin to say “whassup,” when I stared
  • Her antithesis, wearing that fluttering silk charmeuse blouse the color of Kerrygold butter smiled
  • I’m disinclined to believe them when they call themselves “Proper Food”
  • There’s no function in the giant wall of ticket machines to consolidate old BART passes with a small balance/Clipper cards together (and the BART agents can’t do it either)
  • Reverse box pleats in tailored skirts/frocks are fantastic
  • I’m early (I’m never early)
  • I’m not hungry (I’m always hungry, especially when I’m nervous)

Counting this a good day.
