Happy National Vision Board Day!
(Yeah, I did not know it was a thing either, but you can read about it here)
I’ve never made a vision board before and Olieo hopes I never do again.
He was locked out of my office for about a week while I covered most of the floor with images of things that inspire me and remind me what kind of year I want to have.
Partly because I’ve had so much fun making my COVID collages, a vision board finally appealed to me.
I did a workshop with my mastermind pal, Bobbi Calkins of A Carefully Curated Life. Her tutorial was full of specific advice that helped me stay focused and not frustrated.
What collage is teaching me is that the beauty of what I make is in trusting that whether I go into the process with or without expectation, even when the plan goes awry, I tend to like the outcome.
More often than not the layout of images I start with doesn’t make it through the gluing stage. There are holes. Under and over laps meticulously designed, have to give way for something cooler that I didn’t see the first time I put it all together.
And for a BIGGER project (This was glued onto an opened up Lazy Acres shopping bag), where I used enough glue for any four of my usual little collages, many challenges were fresh and different.
As I posted on Instagram this week:
I collaged my 2021 Vision Board this past weekend. Elmer’s Glue, washi tape, saliva (only my own), and color-changing glue sticks were all used for various stickarious purposes. Severe dippling occurred and made me think of this Liff quote.

I’m glad I did it. Collage is a revelation to me: an exciting yet simultaneously restful activity. Somehow I am thrilled by the process, able to focus completely, and I love the way the images look before I photograph them and send them into the world. I plan to not stop, even when COVID is a thing of the past…though maybe I’ll stick to the small sizes, far easier to trust to USPS.
What do you think?
