It is easy to share (sell) your stuff when you believe it is… Great? Worthy? The best thing you could make at the time, with the knowledge and skills you had.
Perfectionism and imposter syndrome are the enemies of creating, which means they are the enemies of learning, which means they are the enemies of getting better and making better stuff.
Each thing I’ve created (and what YOU have created too; Yes, I’m looking at YOU) has merit. Because we pour time and energy and love into whatever it is.
No audiobook I’ve made yet is “perfect.” But my constant attempt to improve and be challenged and learn means that each one has merit, and at the very least, solid entertainment value.
I’m reminded of all this by a new customer review from my reviewer program:
Short, sweet, and sassy
The Poison in the Pudding was my first encounter with Viola Roberts but I will definitely be going back for more. Viola is an enormously likable heroine…I found myself very invested in the characters and intrigued to find out what was going to happen next. The narrator slipped so seamlessly between the characters that I sometimes forgot it wasn’t more than one person reading. Highly recommend!
Amazon Customer
It is possible that “free” translates to “beholden,” and that reviewers are just in my pocket. But I don’t think I’m the sort of person that attracts sycophants. (For starters, I can’t stand people who can’t use sycophant in a sentence.)
So I have to believe that my reviewers are honest and serious when they say a thing I made is great. Worthy. And then I feel grateful, happy, and motivated to go back into the booth and make more things that are even better!
NOTE: I will send you free audiobooks if you agree to post an honest review. Want to join my reviewer program and hear me read you a story?
Just let me know at info@yvettekeller.com.
The cozy mysteries I narrate are light and fun. The Regency supernaturals are about inspiring young women who come into their own. None of them are perfect, but I am proud of each and every one…including my current work in progress (WIP), A Problem of Ghosts.
If you’re not on my mailing list, join now so you will know when it is available at Audible, iTunes, and wherever great (if imperfect) audiobooks are sold.
