Yvette’s Eastercon 2022 Part 1: Safe Today

COVID Free Apr 16
Still COVID Free

Another day, another COVID test. I’m safe today. Each swab is an exercise in staying in the moment, not dwelling on the possibility of upset plans, time and energy ‘wasted’ (that’s my mom’s voice in my head), and hardcore FOMO if it turns out I can’t do all the things I want to do while I’m here.

But WHEW! I’m safe today.

I’m not a danger to anyone…today.

I wanted to be extra careful because a friend of mine that I spent Monday with has tested positive. She’s definitely sick and she’s missing out on a visit with her family.

Her last COVID booster was in December. Mine was March 31. I am so grateful that I made the decision to get boosted, and that I was able to get a shot and have my immune system ready for travel.

I’m going to get ready for my 8 AM swim in just a minute or two, but before I do, here’s an update on getting to Eastercon.

The day before leaving my little garden room, I did laundry, followed Brent’s instructions to make dinner, and took a COVID test. Goodbyes are hard, especially when your friend has taught you how to make an entirely new-to-you, delicious cheese sauce. I said farewell to Aela and Fezzik, Carissa and the teenagers, and called an Uber to head for the convention hotel.
